A little less than a year ago Westwood
announced a new addition to the Command & Conquer series. With the
popularity of the series this comes as no surprise but the new perspective given
to the series wasn't expected. Instead of taking the typical top down, real time
strategy approach to the C&C world, Westwood is now putting you down on a
personal level with the GDI Commando element. You are put in control of Captain
Nick "Havoc" Parker from a first or third person view.
Westwood was showing off the actual game at E3 this year and we were there to
check it out! For starters, the engine looks simply wonderful. The spacious
outdoor environments are beautifully rendered and the indoor scenes are equally
as impressive. All the eye-candy was unveiled at E3 and the real-time shadows
and colored lighting make this title rich on the visuals. Make sure you check
out the in-game video we shot to see such special effects as a C-130 type plane
do a bombing run.
In case you are a C&C strategy fan and fear that this title will be a
watered down first person shooter, fear not! Renegades features familiar aspects
from past versions of C&C. The successful execution of various tasks relies
on what resources the enemy has. If you want to conduct air support, you are
going to have to first take out their SAM sites. If you want to disable some
enemy structures, try taking out their power supply. The same types of rules
found in the traditional C&C games translate to Renegade.

filmed at E3 linked at the top of this preview.
