Valve is sending out word that the first non-beta release of Counter Strike will be released tonight. This is the version 1.0 that will be freely downloadable and is also available for purchase in retail stores as soon as this weekend. Gamers.com has done a detailed analysis of what is new in version 1.0 right here. Valve's official announcement is below:

Since it's initial beta release in fall 1999, Counter-Strike has become the number one played online action game-surpassing all commercial and noncommercial titles in its class. Counter-Strike 1.0 will be released later tonight to all existing Counter-Strike and Half-Life players. CS 1.0 contains new weapons, a number of gameplay fixes, as well as enhanced maps, models and animation. Counter-Strike 1.0 will be available from a variety of gaming sites in two varieties: As an update for existing CS players and as a full Mod for existing Half-Life owners.

Meanwhile, the stand-alone Half-Life: Counter-Strike and Half-Life Platinum retail products are heading to retail outlets everywhere.

WOW. The animations look 110x better than the beta versions. Thank you Valve for stepping up and fixing one of my "issues" with CS :-) The new terrorist models look really scary. Nice! The new CT are neat looking as well but not as cool.

The new UMP is cool but the MP5 still shoots faster in the game. The UMP costs more, holds less rounds and barely does more damage. Bleh.

Anyone notice that the menu images when you select a skin look real short and squaty? Oh well.

I have to disagree with the animations. All the animations are good except running and walking and going up ladders. They look too stiff no upper body movement like TFC....eww. And up ladders they look like they're running sideways. Another thing I miss is the flinching to know I am hitting my opponent. Love the skins except for the SEAL, he looks even gayer than he did in 7.1. Anyways thats my opinion.

I do miss some of the death animations although the new running and walking are well worth loosing death animations. Before the players used to stopped around and it realyl annoys me. Maybe they are not as good as TFC but they are a step in the right direction.

The player flinches always annoyed me because they didn't seem realistic. I could shoot my gun while flinching around but the animations couldn't reflect that. It was just kinda silly...

Anyways, 1.1 is supposedly coming out and gong to have the old models if you want to go back to them, hehe
