Reuters is reporting that the GameCube console is on course for a summer launch in Japan and an October release in the United States. Following in Europe next spring, the next-generation GameCube is expected to sell for around 199 USD. It promises to set new technical standards in a compact, transportable housing and will feature a 405 mhz copper wire central processor from IBM, a graphics co-processor from ATI and 40 MB of memory. Storage media comes in the form of a small 1.5GB optical disc from Matsushita. Accessories will include a 56K modem, a wireless RF controller, two digicard slots, a number of ports, and both analog and digital AV outputs.
