Hopefully somebody here can help. RS worked fine on my old PII 300 system. Now that I spent a fortune building a new machine there is nothing but problems In the setup and selection screens the mouse is in the upper left corner of a large (about 1") box. Dragging the "box" over the screen washes the background out. Washes it out like throwing water on water based paint. Portions of the text are missing in the setup and selection screens too. There are also a couple other minor anomolies in those screens. In the game itself things look fine but it locks up after a few minutes of play. The only way to exit is with a total system shut down and reboot. Specs: 850 mhz Thunderbird (not overclocked yet) with a Globalwin FOP38 cooler, Abit KT7 non-raid mobo, 256 mb 6ns Kingston PC150 CAS2 ram, Hercules Prophet 64mb Geforce II, SB Live Value, Seagate Barracuda UDMA 66 7200 RPM hard drive, 300 watt power supply, and the case has 3 additional cooling fans (5 total). Am running Dx 7.0A, Win 98 SE, the latest Detonator 3 vid driver, the latest SB driver, and the VIA 4 in 1 driver (installed before other drivers). The OS, Dx, and drivers were installed clean on a freshly formatted hard drive. RS was installed form the CD and patched to the latest version (2.5?) from the Redstorm site. The Thunderbird chip runs at about 25 C idle and and 29 C under load. No clue what temp the Hercules is running at but the fan on the heat sink is operating. The Dx diagnostic tool and SiSoft Sandra do not point out any problems. DDraw and D3d are both enabled. Have tried all resolutions from 640x480 with low detail to 1024x768 with high detail. Am confused as to which linear/MIP/etc setting to use (hard to see them with the mouse box washing them out). Have tried most of them. BTW what settings are best for a 64mb Geforce? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Great RS site BTW. Nicely done! Steelhead

Well, your system sounds pretty sweet and you have good drivers that should be working. A few things I would recommend doing are upgrading to DX8 and there is an option with RS you might try playing with. In your Rogue Spear folder you will find a rsconfig.exe file. Run it. Try playing around with the render option and specifically choose your vid card. As far as the texture options to choose in RS, I have been using the default. With your machine, you really aren't going to get a performance increase by using a particular one so just try the different settings and choose one that makes the textures look the prettiest to you. ------------------

Thanks Snicker. Will take a look at rsconfig. Have people been reporting any problems with DX8? M$ is famous for porking systems with each initial release of DX. Steelhead
