BUSH WINS! What the hell, the networks can post election results early, why can't I? As a Florida resident, and one of the 2300 absentee ballot voters (who DID cast), Bush will win. He is slightly ahead right now, but those absentee voters are mostly military folks who will vote Bush. Eglin AFB, Hurlbert AFB, Tyndall AFB, Jacksonville NAS, MacDill AFB, Homestead AFRES Base, Ft Rudder, Pensacola NAS, and a bunch of other military bases means there are a lot of of military who were assigned to one of those bases/stations/forts at some point of their career and have kept their residency/property and vote there. The only other state that has more military voters registered is Texas. Clinton, though he did change as the years went by, was not the CINC that the military had hoped for. Most of that I blame on his handlers, not him. It started when his staff was upset that military assigned to the President had the audacity to show up for work at the White House wearing their uniforms. But the classic was when he (or rather his lawyers) tried to use his CINC status to invoke the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act which prohibits active duty military members from being sued until they have returned from an overseas deployment or contingency operation (to ensure they keep the country's needs before theirs). I would have no problem with him being covered if he'd be willing to fall under the UCMJ which would make him vulnerable for courts martial for adultry, sodomy, and conduct unbecoming which would land him some time in Levenworth. It has been tough to enforce the rules of behavior on our volunteer force when our CINC hasn't lived up to them himself. Side note: Bush's DUI would, today, result in an Article 15 (for an officer, a heavy fine, reprimand, and the probable end to promotions), but back in 1976 would have been no more then a letter of reprimand and that is it. ------------------ | ||
