The Product
All of the parts for the AVerKit come nicely contained with a black
leather case. Inside the case there is the 2.5" hard drive
case, screws, screwdriver, installation CD and FireWire cable. The
leather case is a very nice feature, especially if you want to carry
the AVerKit around.
The rear of the hard drive case features two FireWire ports and
a power input. Inside of the hard drive case I found circuit board
covered with an IDE connection for the 2.5" hard drive that
was to be installed.
Overall, it is a pretty basic setup.
Installation
When it came around to the actual installation of a drive into
the AVerKit, I instantly ran into a problem. The 2.5" drive
that I had did not fit into the AVerkit, it was too tall. Just to
make sure, I went back to the AVerMedia website to check out the
info on the AVerKit to see if it mentioned not fitting the taller
2.5" drives. I searched but found nothing. The only drive that
the AverKit said it would not fit was the Sony Vaio. To me, it seems
as though the website is misleading. By reading the info, I got
the impression that the AverKit would fit any 2.5" drive except
for the Sony Vaio. To resolve this problem I decided to get in touch
with AVerMedia concerning this. They said basically they were aware
that the AVerKit does not fit all drives and will be changing the
website and product later on to reflect this.
Due to the fact that my drive would not even fit into the case,
I could not even proceed with doing benchmarks.
