Introduction
With technology in vehicles continually on the rise, more and more
cars are being built with computer based navigation systems standard.
If you have been to any of the car shows recently you will be amazed
at how computers are being integrated into vehicles. However, most
of the really neat stuff like GPS navigation systems and voice recognition,
is found on expensive luxurious model cars that not all of us can
afford to purchase. With that in mind, I decided to attempt a project
of creating a mini-pc for my computer that has the following abilities:
Support for GPS navigation.
Support for voice recognition.
Support for the latest media technology (MP3’s, DVD’s,
Ogg files, WMA’s, etc).
Provide the ability to watch TV.
Provide the ability to interface with the built-in computer
and displaying real-time data of the vehicles performance while
providing vehicle diagnostics in case of a problem.
Support wireless communication for transfer of files and data.
Ability to support future expansions.
All of this I thought would be both fun and exciting to work towards
accomplishing. It definitely wouldn’t be a project that could
be completed in a weekend, so that is why I have decided to make
it a continuing project review.
As the article progresses, I will be going over the hardware and
software that I am utilizing to accomplish the goals mentioned above.
I will be continually adding and updating this review as the project
continues on. As I get a chance to test out all the different items,
I will update the review as well as providing plenty of photos
