Software and Compatibility
The Intellimouse Explorer comes with IntelliPoint 3.0. This software is designed for three of Microsoft's mouse, the Intellimouse Explorer,
the Intellimouse Optical, and the Intellimouse Web. The original version of the software has problems with Windows 2000 Professional Edition.
Microsoft has now released an updated version of the software, which fixes the compatibility issue. Without installing the software, the mouse
will still be functional; it will be treated as a normal USB mouse with one thumb button working. For a gamer, the thumb buttons will not work
in games, since it is taken as command of forward and backward for browsers. In order for you to use them within the games, you will have to
remap the buttons to one of the keyboard keys. Luckily, Microsoft included that function in the Intellipoint software. Even though it will
work that way, I have notice certain slow down in game due to the use of those remapped buttons. (only in Windows 2000 Professional, Windows
98 isn't affected.)
