:: Belkin OmniView SE 2 Port KVM Switch

Installation
Installation of the OmniView SE 2 Port is fairly simple. Below I will outline the basic steps for you. In order to connect your computers to the Omniview, you will need some type of KVM cable kite. I would recommend purchasing the OmniView All-In-One KVM Cable Kit from Belkin as it is very easy to hook up. All the cables are connected to each other so it is very clutter-free.

  1. Connect the monitor to the Console VGA port
  2. Connect the mouse to the Console Mouse PS/2 Port
  3. Connect the keyboard to the Console Keyboard PS/2 Port
  4. Use a KVM cable kit and connect the mouse cable to the OmniView's PC1 mouse port and to your first computer's mouse port.
  5. Use a KVM cable kit and connect the keyboard cable to the OmniView's PC1 keyboard port and to your first computer's keyboard port.
  6. Use a KVM cable kit and connect the monitor cable to the OmniView's PC1 VGA port and to your first computer's VGA port.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 on your second computer, plugging them into the PC2's corresponding ports.
  8. Plug in the DC adapter to the wall and to the OmniView.
  9. Turn on your computers and enjoy.

Use
Actual use of the OmniView was pretty straightforward. After turning on both computers I could either switch computers by selecting the channel button on the OmniView itself or by hitting the Hot Key combinations, which are as follows.

  • Previous Active Port - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Up Arrow Next
  • Active Port - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Down Arrow Previous Bank - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Page Up
  • Next Bank - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Page Down
  • Directly Switch to Port (0-3) on Bank (1-4) - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, Port #, Bank #
  • Autoscan Mode - Scroll Lock, Scroll Lock, 0, 0

In case you are wondering exactly what a Bank is, I thought I would explain it. If for some reason you later obtain another computer or two, the OmniView has the ability to support daisy-chaining of up to 4 additional OmniView units. When properly daisy-chaining, you must set one OmniView as master and the others as slaves. This can be done by the dipswitches on the rear of the OmniView. The Slave OmniViews that are connected are referred to as Banks. To select a slave "Bank" you must hit the Bank button on the master unit.

One thing I did experience while using the OmniView SE 2 Port though was a problem if I tried to boot up or restart both computers at the same time, my computer with the D815EEA motherboard would hang. To correct this problem I would have to reboot the computer, and it would be fine. Trying to narrow down the cause of this problem, I tried switching out the video cards but it still did it. I have to conclude then that it is an issue with the Intel D815EEA motherboard because it worked fine on my other computers.
