Character Animation
All in all, I found the model animations somewhat lacking. Sub-par robot-like movements plagued many scenes in the game. While we might expect this
from a Borg character, but the rest of the more human models needed more fluid animation. The game supposedly uses a skeletal animation system, but
by my counts, it needs some work. The kill sequences however were quite exceptional. A quick rail-type round from the phaser rifle and those Borgs
vaporized. Not to mention to flips and flying bodies we're all used to.
Graphics & Visuals
I said it earlier and I'll say it again. This game makes full use of the Quake 3 engine, its capabilities, and it shows! Never before has a Star Trek
game looked quite so good. Detailed textures, ambient lighting, and flashy effects from your various energy weapons come together to immerse the player
into the environment created. Cut scenes between missions complete the episode-like feel as compressed MPEG looking video sequences keep you in sync
with the storyline.
NOTE: I currently use a Hercules Prophet 3D II geForce2 GTS 32mb along with Windows 2000 and experienced the same low brightness issues that have affected
Quake 3. I hear the new patches that are scheduled to come out of beta soon fix this issue.
Sound & Voices
The sound in Elite Force is astounding. Everything from your phaser rifle to the voices of the Voyager crew are crystal clear and very fitting to the game.
The game has full support for A3D and EAX 3D sound technologies, which only make things better. The crew of Voyager voices were very real indeed, most
from the actors themselves. All of them were believable except for Seven of Nine, I'm betting her voice wasn't played by Jeri Ryan.
