Introduction
This review is an addition to my ongoing CarPC Project Review, which if you have not checked it out, please do so. If you have read the CarPC Project Review, you will know that in this project of putting a PC into a vehicle I utilize the Xenarc 700TSV 7” LCD monitor.
Having seen and drooled over those $1500 all-in-one in-dash DVD/CD/LCD receivers, I wanted to find a way to convert the Xenarc 700TSV into an in-dash LCD. The only problem was that I wasn’t sure how. I searched for quite some time on the Internet and was not able to locate any type of in-dash LCD Kit. Finally, after looking across the forums, I located several posts of individuals that were purchasing in-dash LCD Kits from a company called Digital Worldwide. I contacted a gentleman by the name of Armen at Digital Worldwide, and sure enough they did have LCD Kits and were having great success in fitting Xenarc and other monitors into the kit. With that information, I decided to purchase one and give it a try.
The Product
Upon receiving the product from Digital Worldwide, I took it out for inspection. The unit I received was completely black, and the casing on it was constructed completely of metal. Unfortunately, like those $1500 LCD receivers, this kit does not retract into the unit automatically by the touch of a button. The unit operates by employing an LCD mount which fits into the metal casing of the unit. The mount utilizes gear wheels on it to slide along a gear track. As you manually push the LCD into the receiver, it locks into a spring loaded clip in the back of the unit. Once locked in place, you simply push again on the LCD and the spring loaded clip releases the LCD so that it can be pulled out. The LCD mount features a spring on the back of it to help push the LCD out. While this may all be difficult to imagine, it should become clearer as you look at the pictures below.
