Overview
SWAT 3 is a first-person tactical police simulation where players assume the role of a LAPD SWAT element leader. You command a five-man team throughout the chaos of hostage rescues, high-risk warrants, barricaded suspects and dignitary protection. You can play this game in two modes. In one, you can randomly play any mission anytime you want to. The other is in a career mode. You are the element lead and you join a squad. As you progress through different missions, you can see your leadership points, and how well your squad respects you. While there isn't a solid story that is used, there is an underlying connection between the missions you are on and it unfolds as they progress along.

Before each mission, you are given a very detailed briefing that covers crime information, event description, demands/deadlines, witnesses, weapons, suspects, hostages, location target, floor plans, tactical advantages, and objectives. The voiceovers and all the information really do an excellent job of putting yourself at the scene. The debriefing after a mission is fairly disappointing though. When a mission is finished, it reports detailed statistics from the game but pretty much leaves it at that. I would have really enjoyed a follow up to all the info that they gave me before the mission to really enhance the feeling that I was actually there and involved in what was going on and not just playing a video game to check my score and statistics.

How well does it play?
