Keyboard, Mouse, and Joystick controls
The keyboard layout and default joystick (MS Precision Pro) assignments are confusing and insufficient. All games are different and take getting used to, but you would expect some common sense. "S" for shields, "G" for guns, "R" for radar. What the programmers did instead was try to group them for ease of use. The keyboard is divided into four groups, handling ship movement, different power configurations and so on. Because key assignments have no logical connection to function, reading the layout is mandatory before doing anything, especially jumping in and actually playing the game.

The default joystick settings were pathetic. The POV isn't assigned for anything and the biggest oversight is no afterburner function is assigned to any of the 12 buttons on the Precision Pro. You can go in and remap all keyboard and joystick functions, but it is a time-consuming task the novice will be hesitant to undertake and the avid gamer annoyed that they aren't there by default.

Blow up your buds.
