I have been here in Los Angeles, CA for two days now. I have had a great time. On Thursday morning at 2:30 am I awoke and got myself ready to leave. I was on the road to the SeaTac Int'l. Airport in Seattle by 3:40 am, and I arrived at 4:30. I checked in and checked my bags and made my way to my gate. As I passed through security some metal rivets on my jeans and or the buckle of my belt set off the metal detector and I had to be checked with a want. Of course nothing was amiss and I was cleared and made my way to my gate for a long hour and a half wait.
At 5:00am I was growing a little hungry since I had not yet eaten that day and I walked over to a Burger King that was opening within the terminal, but because it was small and not a full kitchen, they only served lunch and dinner food (or so the menu implied when it had no breakfast menu), which I did not feel like eating at that time. I made my way back to my gate and waited by listening to music (Adema's new Unstable albume which I had gotten the previous evening) and reading J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
I boarded my plane at 6:10 and waited for take off. I was sitting in seat 13A but I am not supersticious and so I had no worries. The flight was only 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it seemed to go on forever. I finally landed here in LA at 9:10 and met my dad. Because I had not eaten we left the airport and drove to an IHOP for some breakfast. After that we headed to my dad's apartment and dropped my bags off, then went to Long Beach to the Aquarium there.
The aquarium was pretty cool but very busy with hundreds of kids on some sort of summer program tour. They were loud and troublesome, and though I normally like kids, this time I was frustrated with them. But besides them the places was very nice. My dad and I wantered through the entire thing looking at Sea Lions, fish, sharks (which reminds me that during a presentation we stumbled upon, we heard the host tell us that, "most people dont know sharks are fish." hmm. How many of those people are idiots? I'd say 100%), and many other animals. I even touched some Sting Rays (with their stingers cut off for safety) as they glided past the glass walls of the touching pool. I wasn't expecting them to feel like they did, they felt just like any other fish I'd touched, like ones I've caught while fishing. It was a nice experience. I learned that the rays will come to you when you put your hand into the water because they sense your bioelectricity and always want to investigate. After we finished with the exhibits we wandered through the gift shop where I got a glass sculpture of two dolphins jumping out of water.
From the aquarium we went to Torrance to an Airsoft Extreme shop where we looked around. We didn't really have the money for anything even though I wanted to split the cost of a GBB pistol with my dad, but it was nice to get to check out some of the guns for once, as my dad talked to the staff and some customers trading war stories. After we left we got caught in the start of rush hour, and we didn't get back across town until 5:00 pm (we left the shop at 3:40 pm).
Once we got home my dad cooked some dinner for us and we relaxed, but then we decided to buy some tickets online for S.W.A.T. and left for the theatre. When we got there, we soon learned that my dad had driven to the wrong theatre and the right one was a little ways away, and so we drove to it and hoped we'd get there in time. We did and saw a great movie. I highly recommend it for action enthusiasts. Then we came home and went to bed after spending some time reading.
Today was a less eventful day. My dad has come down with a bad cold or the flu and we really didn't do much but rest around the apartment, though I downloaded a few game demos to help pass the time, and we read. We did go out once around noon to In & Out burgers, which was REALLY good. It was kind of amusing that when we went through the drive through a woman came out and stood outside our car and took our orders with a wireless tablet and then we got to the window and paid and got our food. It was wierd but hey, if it works... After that we just came home and ate lunch and spent the afternoon reading and playing computer demos. Tomorrow should be more interesting. We're driving up to Oxnard to my grandparents house where I'll be staying for the majority of my stay here. So that will be better. Thats my 2 days so far here. |
